FAQ

How do you name the converted video files or photos?

For all videos, I will name the file with whatever is written on the tape. If there is a date, I will start with the date and then provide any other writing on the video. For example, if a tape has “Christmas 1998 at Grandma’s”, I will name it “1998 Christmas at Grandma’s”. If it contains a full date (or dates) such as “Susie 2/15/1992 dance, Josh graduation 5/29/1992”, I will name it “1992-02-15 Susie dance, 05-29 Josh graduation”. I can put up to 40 characters in the file name.

For scanned photos or slides, I will put the customer’s last name in the file and then have sequential numbers for the photos. For example, they would be named “Brennan_0001.JPG”. If you group your photos by activities, then I will name them whatever label you provide me.

What payment methods do you accept?

I accept cash, Paypal, and Venmo. I do accept credit cards, but I charge a service fee of 3% since I have to pay those fees to accept credit cards.

What if my tapes don’t have any labels or writing on them?

For each video without a label, I will put a small sticker on it with a sequential number. This helps me keep track of the videos as I am converting them. Once it’s completed, I look for a date in the converted video. For example, if I put “52” on the tape and a date exists in the video such as 02/12/1995, then I will name the file “1995-02-12 Tape 52”. If there’s no date, then the file will be labeled “Tape 52”.

What is your typical turn around time?

I can usually complete customer orders regardless of size within 2 weeks or less.

How does your service compare to the BIG conversion companies like iMemories or Legacybox?

I perform the same exact service you get from the big companies, but I do it all right here in Southeast Texas with personalized service. My prices are cheaper overall compared to them, and you don’t have to ship off your orders to some address with the risk of them getting lost in the mail. I also offer free pickup and delivery in mid-county, so you don’t even have to leave your house!

Can you convert just one tape?

Yes! I have done several orders with just one or two tapes. No order is too small or too big – I can handle whatever you want converted!

I want my tapes converted to DVD. Is that recommended?

My recommendation is to convert your tapes to a USB thumb drive that can be viewed using your smart TV usb port or a computer. At a customer’s request, I will put videos on DVD but those only hold up to 2 hours and cost $12 each (burning the DVD, printed label on the disk, and a case for it). So it can start to get expensive if you want all of your videos converted to DVD – I will do it, but still recommend the USB thumb drive.

Will all of my videos fit on one USB thumb drive?

Yes! The smallest size USB I buy is 16GB but I go all the way up to 512GB. So regardless of how many videos or photos you have, they will all fit on one USB thumb drive.

One of my VHS tapes is broken because the tape snapped and it won’t play. Can you still convert it?

Yes! If the actual tape isn’t showing, I will take the tape apart and splice the tape so it will play. I’ve done this numerous times and it works great.

Do you enhance videos or photos?

No, I don’t enhance videos or photos. I convert whatever media you give me and place on USB drive, DVD or in the cloud as is. I do monitor the videos as they convert, and if the tape is jumping on the screen, I will adjust the tracking as it’s playing. Older tapes sometimes have lines while it’s playing and I’m not able to adjust it.

I had an order with you 6 months ago, and now I need another USB copy of my order. Can you do that?

Yes! I keep all orders backed up on my private network at home for 5 years, so I can create another USB for you at any time. The cost of this service is just the cost of the USB at the time of reorder.
